Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers athletes selected for World Indoor Championships
1:03pm Tuesday 21st February 2012
Two Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers athletes have been selected in the 39-strong Great Britain and Northern Ireland team that will compete in the World Indoor Championships next month.
Having successfully achieved the qualifying time at Saturday’s Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham following her victory in the trials the previous weekend, Marilyn Okoro will be Britain’s sole representative in the 800m, as will another domestic indoor champion – triple jumper Yamile Aldama.
UK Athletics head coach Charles van Commenee said: “This is a strong team and one that can realistically challenge for medals and make finals.
“There are some good athletes coming through and I am looking forward to seeing how they perform on the senior international stage.
“There have been some good performances during the indoor season which bodes well for Istanbul and beyond. The indoor season gives useful information about how athletes are progressing. It is important to remember the focus still remains on London 2012.”
The three-day championships start in Istanbul on March 9.
